Abstract :
Pendry and co-workers [1] have presented the theory of photonic crystals (PC) assembled from thin metal wires predicting the plasma-like cut-off frequency to be controlled by the PC lattice constant and wire diameter. Our experimental frequency measured on copper wire PC in microwave range turned out to be in reasonable agreement with the model although experimental frequency manifested slower increase than theoretical one with the reduction of the lattice constant and wire diameter. The theory applied to silver nanowires embedded in anodic aluminium oxide matrix predicts the effective plasma frequency value that is much higher than the bulk silver plasma frequency: it is the challenge for further investigation of wire PC.
