Abstract
In this paper, performance evaluation of a novel optical packet/burst switch comprising internal fiber rings [1] is carried out. A queueing model is proposed to measure the packet/burst loss probability of this switch. We observe that interconnection links between switching fabrics can limit the switch performance due to their restricted capacity of forwarding packet/burst from one fabric to another. Various scenarios of interconnection links and optical delay lines (ODLs) between two switching fabrics are investigated. Analytical results indicate that more than one interconnections and ODLs would bring significant blocking performance gain.
