Abstract :
The goal of our research was the construction of laser emitting short pulses with high peak power in "eye-safe" region around wavelength 1.5 mum. To solve this problem we use Raman self-conversion of giant pulses at 1.3 mum in Nd3+-doped Raman active crystal SrMoO4. Fundamental laser wavelength was obtained using this advanced solid-state medium Nd3+:SrMoO4 lasing at 1378.1 nm. High-peak powers required for efficient Raman conversion was reached by Q-switching of the Nd3+:SrMoO4 laser by a solid-state saturable absorber V:YAG. Specially designed resonator mirrors were used to ensure proper feed-back for Raman laser and to suppress Nd-emission at other laser lines. Based on this concept Raman laser emitting radiation at 1569.8 nm was realized.
