Abstract :
A new scintillating fiber detector has been built for the COMPASS experiment at CERN, in order to improve detection efficiency of high energy muons scattered at small angles with respect to the beam. We present the description of construction work, as well as performance study based on data collected during 2006 and 2007 data taking periods. Special attention is given to a new technology that we used for connecting clear fibers (Kuraray CLEAR-PSMJ) with the scintillating ones (Kuraray SCSF-78MJ) by a radiation hard UV-cured medical glue Loctite 3081. Results of series of measurements are presented, which were made in order to determine radiation hardness, tensile strength and transmission loss of the joints.
