Abstract :
The total (material and waveguide) dispersion of step-index single-mode fibers with perturbed refractive index profiles is studied. The perturbation solution is shown to lead to a simple evaluation of the fiber zero dispersion wavelength. Various models of perturbed fiber profiles are examined, and their influences on the zero-dispersion shift are compared. It is shown that the resulting zero-dispersion shift, although small, should be taken into consideration.
