Abstract :
The paper deals with intelligent transport systems (ITSs) and services seen from the viewpoint of present and future challenges. The authors contemplate the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and consider their impact on future development and trends. Present considerations are then confronted with EU directing as defined in the ITS Action Plan covering the period 2009 - 2014.
