Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Current transmission in a crossed-field diode has been subject to earlier investigations where the electron flow is described by a laminar cold-fluid model. Non-relativistic, continuous solutions are found up to the Hull cut-off field B/sub c/, provided that the cathode boundary condition (dV/dx) can be chosen in an ad hoc manner. We have developed a similar model. However, applying the common (and in this case physically relevant) cathode boundary condition dV/dx=0 for space-charge limited flow, we find that steady-state solutions for laminar current flow then only appear to exist for B
