Abstract
A digital system which contains two parts is considered. The first part is an optical communication system with ASK modulation. The optical receiver is constructed as a heterodyne asynchronous ASK receiver. The signal is transmitted in the baseband through the second part of system (a coaxial cable). Probability density functions for both of the hypotheses (H/sub 0/ and H/sub 1/), the optimal threshold and the performance of system are determined. The optimal threshold is determined on the condition that the error probability is minimal.
