Abstract :
Modern e-learning systems are providing technologies and services enabling students to do more than just receive learning materials - they are no longer passive learners and can actively participate and contribute in content creation. This study examined the importance of Web 2.0 technologies and services provided by an e-learning system from the students´ point of view. A quantitative research in the form of an online survey was performed to answer the research questions about the students’ perceptions regarding the importance of inclusion of Web 2.0 technologies and services inside an e-learning system. Students were also asked about the frequencies of actual use of these technologies and services. Results of the study indicate that, although students believe Web 2.0 technologies and advanced services are important in e-learning process, they do not fully exploit all the features provided by an e-learning system. The findings of the present study are the basis for future research activities. The paper concludes with some future research directions about the factors influencing students’ adoption of Web 2.0 technologies and services inside an e-learning system.
