Abstract
In this paper problem of accurate edge detection in images of heat emitting objects is considered. Firstly the theory of edge detection is surveyed. A review of existing techniques for edge detection is provided. Especially methods based on analysis of image derivatives are regarded. Results of applying the considered methods to images of melted specimens of metals and alloys are presented, analyzed and discussed.
