Abstract :
We introduce two abstractions, namely virtual swarms and spatiotemporal constraints, which can help to design applications for distributed systems consisting of mobile nodes. These abstractions create the awareness needed by the application while abstracting from the location and motion of individual nodes. This way, the application can concentrate on the swarm as a whole instead of individual nodes.
