Abstract :
Projects dealing with many different technologies, whether new access architectures or communications devices, usually handle the cross-functional designs and complexity via modularity and specific languages. With the goal to architect communications in a generic way, independent of specifics protocols or underneath technologies, the paper presents a simulation model and methodology, which address modularity inspired in physics-like reactions, and a practical generic language and on-line tool. This modeling and tool is presented briefly through a series of examples, explaining how to use a modular approach to architecture or to upgrade new systems, for the sake of reusing time and experiences. Two examples are provided: a request to NASA Satellite databases in a distributed architecture; and a novel satellite upgrade in order to carry QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) devices on-board. Thus, the paper presents how the model handles aspects as modularity and distribution in general, for gaining efficiency in cross-functional designs by using a common high-level textlanguage and visually tool.
