Abstract :
The paper presents a new system used for starting the diesel engine of the LDH1250HP locomotive, for improving its performances, reliability and availability. The system developed uses rapid release storage devices, a power electronic unit and a computer linked with all the distributed system elements, by using Ethernet bus. Also, the paper describes an intelligent data acquisition system integrated with the starting system and developed to monitor the electrical parameters of the LDH1250HP locomotive. The proposed monitoring system allows evaluating the electrical locomotive parameters and the overall system performances. The details of implementation and the experimental results are also presented. The technical implementation allows a significant reduction of exploitation cost and carbon footprint of the locomotive.
