Abstract :
Modern smart phone devices are small computers with operating system, third party applications and several wireless interfaces. Their mobility goes beyond traditional networked devices; as device move, it is able to see different access networks and use different physical interfaces to establish the connection. This enhanced mobility requires some sort of connectivity and network mobility management system to be present on device. Network mobility provides interfaces for applications to control the way they connect to network while connectivity management performs actual route selection and handles session continuity problems. This paper presents new Java development paradigm introduced with Network Mobility and Mobile Data Interfaces application programming interface (API) (defined in Java Specification Request 307, JSR-307), discusses requirements that implementation of this API puts on underlying operating system and proposes possible ways to fulfill these requirements on selected platform.
