Abstract :
Value Added Services (VAS) are nowadays well established in the mobile services domain, helping to grow traffic revenues and profit, providing the end users with real-life benefits. There are different technology approaches while developing such services, from using any of the available Service Delivery Platforms (SDP) to J2EE standalone application development. This paper presents the experience of developing such a service, with employment of available Open Source technologies like Spring, Hibernate, Quartz, Tapestry and GlassFish as an J2EE application server. Through the description of the software system architecture and functionalities of the service, problems and benefits of using Open Source framework in relation to other mentioned approaches are stated. This paper describes collected experiences while considering requirements for high availability and robustness of the telecom service.
