Abstract :
Open source software stands as one of the most popular trends of the informatics industry in the last few years. Many governments strongly promote usage of open source software in a public administration. Principles of openness, cooperation and sharing are built inside open source software which coincides with most important requirements of public administration informatization: interoperability and respect of standards. In the public administration of Republic of Croatia open source software isn´t present significantly. That is especially true for open source software implementations on desktops where only couple small institutions use it. Research on usage of open source software in public administration Internet infrastructure that is conducted in last two years showed that only academic community use open source software server applications heavily.
