Abstract :
Nematic liquid crystal droplets labeled with a fluorescent dye and embedded in a polymer were used as whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) resonators. The modes can be tuned using either electric field, temperature or strain. Here we show that temperature and strain tuning range is of the order of several tens of nanometers. Liquid crystal droplets can be used as very sensitive temperature and strain sensors.
