Abstract :
Thin film flexible CuInSe/sub 2/ (CIS) solar cells have been fabricated on light-weight and flexible metallic and polymeric substrates. Evaporated Cu-In alloy precursors were selenized in an H/sub 2/Se atmosphere at around 400/spl deg/C to grow the CIS absorber layers. CdS and ZnO window layers were deposited using the chemical bath deposition technique and MOCVD, respectively. The demonstrated active area AM0 conversion efficiency of 9.3%, and the specific power of >1 kW/kg make the polyimide-based light-weight CIS device very attractive for certain space power generation applications where high specific power and mechanical flexibility are desired.
