Abstract
Transmission power control can significantly improve low-power wireless sensor network communications energy-efficiency. Power consumption models usually used to analyze various techniques for energy-efficient transmission are based on distance-dependent channel attenuation. In practice, distance is often not available and the dependence is not sufficiently accurate. Therefore, we propose more accurate power consumption model that uses information on total channel-loss, available on the most current low-power transceivers. We find that the model approximates datasheet values for CC1xxx transceivers very well, with absolute errors less than 7.616 mW.
