Abstract
Electric distribution systems have been undergoing substantial changes in the recent years, aiming more efficient and cost effective operation. In this paper, new operation philosophies and systems in the literature have been analyzed in parallel with these changes. There are various applications of Distribution automation systems performing automatic fault detection, isolation and restoration. However, these systems fail to identify fault location in the presence of distributed generation and interconnected feeders. In this paper, a smart distribution automation system (ADOS) has been proposed that could perform healthy fault identification in distribution systems employing mentioned novelties. Proposed method is compared to distribution automation system TÜDOSİS, which has been developed by TUBITAK UZAY for traditional distribution systems having radial operated ring structured feeders, and necessity of ADOS has been justified.
