Abstract :
Numerous disciplines require an educational process to be performed in far richer and more interactive environments than existing platforms for distance learning can offer. In this paper we present the design and implementation of the 3D Modeling Educational Environment (3DMEE) which is a virtual university system for distance learning and assessment. 3DMEE enables interaction between onsite and distant teachers as well as students with educational resources through integrated virtual and real laboratories. Another advantage is the ability to use existing single-user desktop simulators in a multi-user distributed environment. 3DMEE enables defining new courses, syllabuses and curricula. Using this system virtual computer networks and computer graphics labs are realized. Efficiency is measured by comparing the students´ final results presented in virtual and real labs. The quality is improved through repeated student interactions and suggestions.
