Abstract :
Here we demonstrate single mode lasing from microdroplets of cholesteric liquid crystal. The droplets are formed by self assembly when mixing the liquid crystal with glycerol. This is one of first lasers that emits light isotropically in all directions and thus acts as a point source of light. Furthermore, the lasing wavelength is highly tunable by changing the temperature.
