Abstract :
Fourier modal methods, originally developed for modeling diffraction by relief gratings, have recently evolved into efficient tools for full-vector modeling of optical field distribution in high-contrast photonic guided-wave devices. In this paper we discuss mainly 2-D methods, with particular attention to boundary conditions, problems of “proper Fourier factorization”, and implementations of adaptive spatial resolution techniques.
