Abstract :
As energy efficiency is becoming more important in the past few years, the aim of this study is to develop and present a cellular network deployment method, that takes into account energy efficiency as optimization criterion. An algorithm is shown that is able to place base stations and determine main lobe directions of antennas automatically over an area, as well as basically determines the amount of radio resources to be handled by each sector, given that a set of traffic demands must be fulfilled. This coverage of demands is then followed by an optimization task, whose aim is to reduce the total power consumption of the network. The performance of this method is discussed by showing numerical results, as well as the advantages and shortcomings of this approach are presented.
