Abstract :
Today´s railway networks are undergoing a renaissance. Digital communications technology will offer new services to operators & passengers. Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is steering the evolution of all relevant technology, including LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology to transform both GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications Railway) and Broadband on Trains with higher data speeds and more cost-effective, IP-based operations. New applications will soon proof their economic and operational benefits to the operators. The successful implementation of GSM-R will provide rail operators with multiple benefits both operationally and financially will significantly increase the security, reliability and punctuality of rail services and a future proof evolution during the next decade.
