  • Abstract
In a past few decades, Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs) almost completely replaced tube technology and became the most popular imaging device for use in video cameras. The image sensor is the key device that determines the quality of the camera´s picture. After number of improvements in CCD technology during the years, some weak points of CCD technology are still visible in the picture. Nowadays, when HD is becoming the standard all around the world, industry is searching for an image sensor that will bring even better picture quality as well as more economical approach in production and use. New generation of CMOS image sensors has brought significant improvements in picture quality but with lower production price and less power consumption in cameras in camcorders and put technical people in a position to choose between two technologies.
