Abstract
In this paper we describe a method for application-specific customization of dynamic phasors, intended for use in wide-area monitoring and control of electric power networks. In particular, we propose frequency-selective customization for control of power quality across the grid. Our approach relies on a recently introduced family of generalized dynamic phasors, which we called Phasor Banks, and results in a more compact representation than that obtained with the better-known Fourier dynamic phasors. In turn, customization facilitates efficient communication of phasor information across the power grid, enabling real-time coordinated power-flow control. We also discuss time-selective customization, which allows more accurate determination of the moment of onset of a fault transient. Such information is needed in both fault detection and (networked) fault location applications.
