Abstract
A detailed model describing the coincidental timing resolution of scintillating fibers is developed for a fully general selection of relevant physical distributions. Fiber geometry, rate of scintillation decay together with the mean number, spatial dispersion and attenuation of emitted photons is considered. Broadness of the model - achieved by assuming general form of user provided distributions - allows physical considerations of varying complexity to be adopted - from a simple meridional approximation to a considerably more refined description of optical processes involved. Though developed with scintillating fibers in mind, the model is indiscriminately applicable to any kind of light guides. To demonstrate the output of a developed model, a fiber prototype is selected, supplying the required set of parameters and distributions. Following, examples for timing resolution distribution are presented, together with various dependencies for calculated FWHM values.
