Abstract :
The increase in the energy demand has multiplied the importance of energy transmission. The faulty power transmission lines need to be isolated quickly for a continuous energy transmission. In this study, a new method was developed for detecting faults and fault type occurred in power transmission lines. The method concerns fault signals of real transmission lines. The Wigner-Ville energy distribution of these signals was obtained and this energy was mapped onto a gray-level co-occurrence matrix. Some fault related exclusive features were derived from this matrix. The faults were detected by classifying these features through some statistical and intelligence based methods. The results obtained by this method were compared to the ones obtained through earlier studies.
