Abstract
The paper analyzes measurements architecture for a Distribution System Operator (DSO) and anticipates evolutions determined by Smart Grid implementation. Main measurement applications in DSO node are related to: control, monitoring, and protection. The scope of these measurements is to establish power quality (PQ) and energy transfer. The Smart Grid that is under development will lead to Smart Measurements. This determines important data flows, and the need for increased accuracy. The new architecture proposed in the paper for DSO node is based on UNIX UMA concept. The advantage determined by UMA is presented from perspective of PQ measurements. The paper focuses on layer 3 (data services) of UMA architecture.
