Abstract :
Paper presents experiments and results of video driver assistance system using Optical Correlator (OC). In our system, the Cambridge Correlator was used. The traffic scene is captured by color camera and extracted frames are input for the Recognition System. The system consists of three main blocks, Preprocessing Optical Correlator and Traffic Sign Identification. First (preprocessing) block defines and chooses the Region of Interest (ROI) in captured frame. Preprocessed ROI (color filtered and resized) goes to Optical Correlator and then is compared with database of reference images (traffic signs). Those images are compared during correlation process in terms of two criteria, similarity and relative position. Output of correlation consists of highly localized intensities; know as correlation peaks (spots). The intensity of spots provides a measure of similarity and position of spots, how images are relatively aligned in the input scene. Several experiments have been done with this system. Results and conclusion are discussed.
