Abstract :
A drive system which consist of induction motor and isolated gate bipolar transistor three phase inverter for electric vehicle (EV) propulsion is presented. Efforts have been made to ensure efficient operation of sliding mode vector control of IM. A simple, robust and novel control strategy is proposed for driving and regenerative braking of EV. The drive system, including a 18 kW, 4 pole, 6000 r/min, 120 V battery-powered induction motor and a 30 kVA IGBT inverter, has been applied to a pick-up truck. Road test running of the truck has verified that the proposed control strategy is practical.
