Abstract :
Experimental results on energy deposition of an intense electron beam (Wb =0, 2–1, 2 kJ) in an inhomogeneous magnetized plasma are reported. The maximum efficiency of the energy transfer Δ Wb/Wb =0, 3 was found in the oscillating beam mode of operation. A theoretical model describing the dynamics of the (overheated) non-Maxwellan plasma after the heating pulse was developed as a base for correct interpretation of diamagnetic loop and magnetic probe signals. OREBIA-REX computer-code simulating reflex E-beam systems coupled to an external circuit provided an additional information on electron beam generation and relaxation in systems with a. virtual cathode, including the dynamics of non-conventional h. v. diodes and of ion beam generation.
