Abstract :
A new design methodology based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for single mode multi-clad optical fiber is presented. Using numerical simulations, we evaluate fitness function with nonzero Gaussian parameter and propose optimal fitness function for multi-clad single mode fiber design. By use of a weighted fitness function with non-zero Gaussian parameter for the first time, we have decreased dispersion, dispersion slope and bending loss at least 10 times at λ=1.55 μm simultaneously. (-2.3104e-6 ps/km/nm, 0.0512 ps/km/nm and 2.3742e-5 dB/ are achieved for dispersion, dispersion slope and bending loss respectively). Also in comparison with last works, the simulation results have shown that PSO is so better than genetic algorithm (GA) in fiber design.
