Abstract :
A modeling and performance evaluation approach is developed for a class of multidomain packet-switching networks. This approach can prevent bottlenecks in such a network. The performance evaluation is based on a general multidomain network model which consists of a unique common (radio) domain and several separate and independent (wire) subdomains. Subdomains can be used to improve network reliability and to unburden the common domain of the flows. Each network station is assumed to be capable of communicating within both the subdomain to which it belongs and the common domain. The performance of such a network is measured using the newly defined F/O ratio, i.e., the ratio of feasible and offered integral flows. This ratio is calculated for several types of the represented multidomain network, obtained through the variation of values of some measurable network parameters.
