Abstract :
Obtaining high performance in the operation of AC/DC PWM power converters is based on sophisticated circuits and control strategies. The paper presents an efficient, robust and easy to implement fuzzy-logic controller for a PWM AC/DC power converter with high power factor. This type of converter exhibits strong nonlinear behaviour and requires complex gating patterns, difficult to be analytically derived. A special new environment, written in CPP language, has been developed around the PSPICE kernel in order to provide design and simulation facilities. Two fuzzy logic based control strategies were designed and investigated using this original simulation environment. The closed-loop system was tested through extensive simulation experiments and exhibited good transient and steady-state behaviour. Comparative studies with different control strategies reported in the literature proved the superiority of the proposed control method.
