Abstract :
Embedded multimedia systems are one of the most representative segments in the electronics markets. However, the design process for high-end multimedia systems has become a crucial bottleneck due to the increasing complexity of both the software and the underlying hardware, coupled with shortened time-to-market pressures. While there has been a notable growth in the use and applications of multimedia systems and in the evolution of system-on-chip design technology, there are still enormous opportunities for improving design productivity in this domain. The aim of this symposium is to bring together people from di erent multimedia-related research communities (eg, software, architectures, realtime systems, DSP, compilers, multimedia applications) who have worked separately, but did not interact sufficiently to address the challenges facing the design of hardware and software for multimedia systems. This year, the tenth IEEE Symposium on Embedded Systems for Real-Time Multimedia (ESTIMedia) features a new paper selection scheme, distinct from previous years, as follows: 1. There are two types of papers: (1) accepted and selected papers and (2) accepted papers. 2. The accepted and selected papers will be published in the special issue for ESTIMedia 2012 in ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems (TECS). These papers are presented in the symposium proceedings by 1-page extended abstracts. 3. The accepted papers are published (full length) in the symposium proceedings. The symposium received 51 submissions from all over the world, whereas 2 submissions were withdrawn and 49 submissions went to the review process. Each of the 49 submissions was thoroughly reviewed by three to four reviewers. Based on the reviews of the TPC members, the symposium features 5 accepted and selected papers after revisions and 11 accepted papers. The program is organized into four regular paper sessions followed by poster sessions. ESTIMedia´12 specially includes two distinguished keynote speeches by Prof. Vittorio Zaccaria (Politecnico di Milano, Italy) and Prof. Sergio Bampi (Federal University of RGS, Brazi).
