Abstract :
Recently, it has been a big progress in motor learning, neuroplasticity, and functional recovery after the occurrence of brain lesion. Relevant results in neuroscience have stimulated research in neurorehabilitation. Repetitive motor activity in a real-world environment with a cognitive effort has been identified in several studies as favorable for motor recovery in stroke patients. A well known technique is Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, which can be applied in a variety of ways to the affected upper extremity following stroke. Taking into account the below ideas, this project aims at developing a Functional Electrical Stimulation based motor neuroprosthesis, for neurorehabilitation.
