Use of optimization and simulation in the implementation of the process automation system of the EDF nuclear power plants

This paper presents an approach used at Electricite/spl acute/ de France (EDF) for the design of an instrumentation and control system that is being used in current nuclear power plants. This approach integrates detailed specification, configuration and validation and helps to produce an optimal configuration where cost, safety and performance requirements are balanced.
