Abstract :
In Brazil, islands and areas surrounding the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants are often occupied by people that, if well managed, can be benefited from the economic activity related to the lake. Among these activities are: the agriculture, fishing industry, tourism, etc. As a result, a better organization and development of the economic activity can be obtained; therefore, a better use of the land with lower environmental impacts on the edges of the lake, in accordance with ISO 14001, can be attained. In order to develop this project, it is necessary to collect, in a systemic way, the socio-economic and current environmental information. For any region within the country it is essential a project that could regulate the use of the land. Technologies such as the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote Sensing (RS) can offer the required background to achieve this aim.
