Abstract :
The phenomena of period doubling tripling frequency locking and chaos in laser diodes have been well documented in the literature, as have rate equation models. An overview of this work is given, with particular emphasis on results for devices with negative gain compression, multiple quantum well (MQW) devices under two-tone modulation, and on both Fabry-Perot and DFB devices that exhibit chaos.
