Abstract :
In electric vehicles the battery still is an energy bottleneck, because of its limited capacity, its high price and its limited lifetime. Smoothing the battery´s peak loads prevents battery fatigue mechanisms and the battery stress. The practical result is an increase of lifetime and a higher availability of power. In some approaches smoothing is done by additional super capacitors that buffer power peaks. Another approach of smoothing is discussed here where power loads are switched sequentially instead of simultaneously as far as possible. For this load balancing concept the Quantitative Feedback Theory is applied to design a robust multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) controller.
