Abstract :
A nation of nanogirds could offer us many opportunities in energy management, yet it presents several challenges. The key advantageous feature of nanogrids is the localized distributed control where all allocations are done by loads. Combining this key feature with the e-mobility potentials in supporting the grid, we propose a novel decentralized distributed scheme for coordinating the charging of multiple plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) within the smart nanogrid framework. Our distributed scheme was co-simulated from both perspectives, power and communication, over a converged broadband fiber-wireless communication infrastructure. For a network of 335 residential customers, power system results proved efficiency providing 14% peak shaving while meeting drivers´ requirements. Communication results compared to a centralized benchmark scheme presented better performance, measuring an upstream traffic of 0.65 Mbps with a maximum delay of 0.8 ms at the controller end.
