Abstract :
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a robust transmission technique in a Raleigh fading and Rician fading environments. The growing interest in OFDM research motivated us to propose OFDM for satellite communications. In this paper, trellis coded modulation (TCM) and turbo coding are considered with OFDM for a Rician fading channel according to the specifications given by the Iridium system. Bit error rat (BER) performances are analyzed with L and Ka bands. Turbo coded OFDM gives the best performance compared to convolutional coded and trellis coded OFDM systems. Peak to average power ratio (PAPR) can be reduced approximately by 1.6 dB with the help of partial transmit sequence technique.
