Abstract :
A new method of speech transmission quality evaluation called "modified intelligibility test with forced choice" (MIT-FC) is presented. This new method provides fully automatized measurement of speech intelligibility (the listener´s task is to select on a computer monitor which of the alternative utterances presented visually to him was spoken). The MIT-FC method was implemented in a stationary version for the measurements of telecommunication systems and chains and in a portable version for the measurements of auditoria and mobile communication systems. The results of application of the MIT-FC method in telecommunications are presented and the results obtained are compared with the results of traditional intelligibility tests. The method was also applied for the assessment of speech intelligibility in auditoria and the results compared with RASTI measurements. The conditions and demands connected with the application of the MIT-FC method in telecommunications, room acoustics and hearing aid adjustments are also presented.
