Abstract :
In this paper we present a procedure for finding the optimal backbone topology of fast packet switched networks. We use a combination of the Lagrange relaxation method and a modified version of the genetic algorithm. Both, the model and the algorithms are programmed together with a visual interface which allows a flexible definition of the network and control of the optimization experiment.
