Abstract :
Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) is a promising solution to enhance network capacity and extend network coverage by increasing cell site density in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-Advanced) systems. However, dense deployment of cell sites not only increases desired signal strength, but also intercell interference as cell sites get closer. To combat with intercell interference, Joint Processing Coordinated Multi-Point (JP CoMP) technique is introduced into LTE-Advanced systems. In this paper, we aim to theoretically evaluate JP CoMP based systems in terms of statistical average of capacity. Two typical JP schemes, including Dynamic Cell Selection (DCS) and Joint Transmission (JT) are considered. We first derive the Probability Density Function (PDF) of Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR) for different transmission schemes and based on this, obtain the statistical average capacity. From computer simulation, we compare the performance of the two JP schemes with non CoMP scheme. The impacts of number of cooperative cell sites, transmitting antennas, and interfering channels are also discussed.
