Abstract :
Recently “Esstalion Technologies, Inc.” has been established by Hydro-Quebec and Sony Corporation. The new company will research and develop reliable, highly safe, olivine-type lithium-ion iron phosphate rechargeable batteries for use within power systems in a wide range of applications. The main focuses of this work is to show the existence of the optimal ESStalion management schedule to store energy when demand is low and release energy at peak hours to shave demand profile and to decrease the power loss. For this purpose, IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS 96) is chosen as pilot test system. Integer Speed-constraint Multi-objective Particle swarm optimization (Integer SMPSO) is then used to find best allocation solutions. Finally a solution has been taken and simulated within the test case over a year. Study results confirm the fact that energy storages would have significant effect on loss reduction, yet a precise adapted chain of decision for charge and discharge are essentially required.
