Abstract :
An automated processing system for SAR (synthetic aperture radar) data and a web user interface for browsing oil spill related cartographic information have been developed to assist oil combating operations. Baltic Oil Response Information System (BORIS) is able to derive oil spill observations from Radarsat SAR imagery with an automated detection system, and with dedicated software an operator can verify and edit these results before publishing them in a web browser map interface. In addition, oil spill information service from KSAT can be used to automatically insert the data to the system to be viewed with user cartographic data on available oil combating resources, areas of high protection priority etc. In addition, the system includes estimation methods of detection reliability and a connection to a drift model.
