Abstract :
The 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC) contains five references to the IAS Color Book series. Since the Color Books are now being replaced by the 3000 Collection, 52 proposals to reference topical material from 3000 Collection into the 2017 National Electrical Code were submitted by the authors to expand this linkage. Some of the NEC technical committees have accepted some of the proposals but a full account will not be known until after the 2017 NEC is released. There are other documents where 3000 collection concepts could be integrated into the power industry literature. The 2018 revision to NFPA 70E - Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace - is taking public input until July 2015. The 2019 revision to NFPA 70B - Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment - will begin its revision cycle next year. The Industrial Applications Society should work assertively to drive more engineering information into NFPA documents. This paper provides a template to begin correlating concepts between the NFPA 70 suite and the 3000 collection.
